Greetings. I'm Denis Murphy, recently moved from St. Louis to Seattle. Ethnic dance, also known as international folk dance and world dance, has been my core hobby, recreation, activity, etc., since I first learned Balkan dance at the Defense Language Institute (formerly Army Language School) in Monterey, CA, in 1961. Yes, dance was part of the official curriculum in the Serbo-Croatian department and was taught by Gospodin Dimitrijevic.

I later branched into line and circle dances from all over Europe and the Middle East as I moved from Monterey to Berkeley, back to Monterey, to LA, to Seattle, then Buffalo, DC, Las Vegas, Fresno, St. Louis, and now back to Seattle. I've also occasionally done couple dances, contras, and sets, but my passion is reserved for the line and circle dances of the Balkans, broadly defined.

Nice site. You forgot one thing, though. We'll need a separate section for geriatric dancing soon. Denis Murphy S030
